KENORA – As part of the provincial investment from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund of more than $490,000 to revitalize McLeod Park and the restoration of Kenora’s loveable mascot Husky the Muskie, phase two of the project begins this week.

Phase one has been completed earlier this month as Husky the Muskie receive it fresh paint job.

McLeod Park will get a new playground, picnic area, site furniture, landscaping, drainage improvements and signage.

“We are excited to see work get underway at McLeod Park which will create a vibrant picnic area and playground for residents and visitors,” says Mayor Daniel Reynard. “This is a terrific way to use our Municipal Accommodation Tax dollars to support economic development and tourism in our community.”

McLeod Park will be closed to the public for safety reasons while the work is being done, which includes the park’s public washrooms.

However, public washrooms are available at the Lake of the Woods Discovery Centre or the Thistle Pavilion.

The McLeod Park project is funded by the Government of Canada Tourism Relief Fund, the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation and the Municipal Accommodation Tax. MAT is a visitor tax that is utilized to support tourism and economic development projects in the City of Kenora.
