KIIWETINOONG – Public School Educator, Manuela Michelizzi, has spent the last 13 years teaching students at Sacred Heart School in Sioux-Lookout; however, she is currently on the road to educating Queens Park on the issues pledging the Kiiwetinoong riding.
“I am dedicated to making northern voices heard and striving to improve our access to health care and mental health services, restoring our world-class education system, finding solutions to the housing crisis and making living in the north more affordable for families and those just starting out.”
Serving as the first executive vice president of Northwest’s Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association, Michelizzi is a community advocate. She has led her school in practicing Reconciliation with First Nations, Inuit and Metis people and hopes to continue building bridges between fractured communities. Michelizzi’s passion for the arts has led her to foster community-driven events, including workshops for dance and teaching conversational Italian language.
Michelizzi was born in Thunder Bay, Ont., where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science and her Bachelor of Education from Lakehead University. After planting her roots in Sioux Lookout, she has specially developed her teaching practice to include and emphasize Special Education practices and instructional approaches that help foster improved literacy in children.
