UPSALA — A Thunder Bay area resident is out of pocket $3,500 for failing to cooperate with a Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officer.
The MNR released details of an incident that occurred in October 2024 in the Upsala area.
It said an officer conducting an enforcement patrol initiated an inspection of a hunter he spotted driving in a forestry cutover.
During questioning, the man failed to produce his firearms for inspection despite multiple requests, and obstructed the officer by not allowing him to inspect his vehicle and items related to hunting.
After Murillo resident Dale Turecki was arrested a subsequent search of his vehicle turned up two firearms and live ammunition in the rear seat.
Hunters are required by law to produce licences, firearms, ammunition, harvested wildlife and other items related to hunting immediately upon the request of a conservation officer.
In this instance, the individual pleaded guilty and was fined $3,000 for obstructing an officer, and an additional $500 for failing to produce items for inspection.
The case was heard by a justice of the peace in Thunder Bay earlier this year.
