AROLAND— A 28-year-old man has been arrested and charged following a report of a weapons incident near Aroland First Nation's school.

Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) members working out of the community's detachment received and responded to the call regarding a possible firearm near the school in the afternoon on July 30, according to a media release issued by NAPS on Friday.

Further investigation indicated that the man had allegedly pointed a firearm at another individual near the school prior to the police's arrival on the scene.

As a result of a continued investigation, the man was identified and later located that same afternoon at his home nearby.

The police said they have since taken the man into custody without further incident and located and seized an AR-15 style replica firearm.

Following his arrest, the man was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, pointing a firearm and failure to comply with a probation order.

The man has appeared in bail court on Aug. 1 and remains in custody with a future appearance date.
