MISHKEEGOGAMANG – An arrest has been made after police say an officer was assaulted while attempting to make an arrest.

Nishnawbe Aski Police Service on Tuesday said officers responded on Friday, June 20, to a call for an unwanted person in a residence in Mishkeegogamang First Nation.

Upon arrival at the residence, police learned an adult male had allegedly forced himself into the home, in violation of a court-ordered undertaking.

The man then fled the scene before officers arrived, said police.

Later in the day, police received a second call for service regarding an unwanted male in another home in the community, and learned it was the same male involved in the earlier incident.

This time, the man was still in the residence when police arrived.

Police removed the suspect from the home for violating the undertaking, but during the arrest, the man allegedly attacked the officer.

The 29-year-old man was charged with assaulting a peace officer and two counts of failure to comply with an undertaking.

He appeared in court and was remanded into custody to face a future court appearance.

It is Newswatch policy not to name suspects in cases in which it is unlikely it will be followed through to its conclusion in court.
