NORTH SPIRIT LAKE – A 31-year-old man is facing assault charges after an incident in North Spirit Lake First Nation.

In a release issued on Tuesday, Nishnawbe Aski Police Service said they responded to a report of an assault in the evening hours of Sunday, June 22.

When officers arrived at the home, they found an adult male suffering from significant injuries consistent with a recent assault.

A male suspect was identified, located and arrested without incident on Airport Road.

However, during the arrest the accused became agitated and allegedly threatened the arresting officers.

The accused was subsequently charged with assault causing bodily harm and uttering threat – cause death or bodily harm.

The man appeared in court on Monday and was remanded into custody to face a future court date.

It is Newswatch policy not to name suspects in cases in which we are unlikely to follow through to their conclusion in court.
