Man arrested after OPP officer assaulted during altercation

Officers were called to Millar Crescent in Sioux Lookout on Saturday afternoon after receiving reports of a man yelling and holding an edged weapon.

SIOUX LOOKOUT — A 36-year-old man faces multiple charges after a weekend interaction with police led to an officer being assaulted.

Provincial police said officers were called to Millar Crescent in Sioux Lookout on Saturday afternoon after receiving reports of a man yelling and holding an edged weapon.

The responding officers found the man and during the ensuing interaction, one officer was assaulted. Police used a conducted energy weapon to help make the arrest.

The accused is charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, resisting a peace officer, and carrying a concealed weapon.

The accused remains in custody as he awaits a bail hearing in a Kenora court.
