RED LAKE — A visiting magician from Montreal put on a show in Red Lake.

On Monday, the Ecole catholique des Étoiles-du-Nord hosted Zambo the magician as part of a tour of communities across Northwestern Ontario.

Mario Cadieux is a magician from Montreal who has specialized in family entertainment since 1996. This holiday season, Cadieux created a Christmas event for families to help celebrate Christmas with his magic show. He has been touring the region and visiting local schools and French organizations. He also has had shows lined up in Dryden, Kenora, Thunder Bay, Longlac and Geraldton.

“The show was super super fun, the kids had all had a really good time,” says Etoiles-du-Nord teacher Manon St.Onge. “The kids were so amazed.”

The agency was contacted by Lina Mayer, who helped the magician connect with all of the francophone groups and schools in the northwest to coordinate him visiting different places.

The Red Lake show was a partnership between the Francophone Association and the Etoiles –du-Nord school, put on with funding from a Passpart grant. The $2,000 grant covered all the costs for the show to come to Red Lake. They offer grants for organisations that want to partner with local schools to offer all sorts of activities.

“I loved how Mario was Francophone, and made plenty of jokes,” parent Renee Bausch said. “He was hilarious, engaged the audience, allowed the kids to participate with him onstage, and his tricks were pretty cool.”
