DRYDEN -- The Northwestern Health Unit wants to let people know of foodborne illness that happened at a music festival in Dryden this past weekend.
The health unit suspected that the food poisoning was caused by macaroni and cheese which was sold by a food vendor without a permit at the Rhythm on the Range event on Saturday.
At least 10 people have reported symptoms consistent with foodborne illness. The health unit is still investigation and recommended anyone who has developed symptoms within 12 hours of eating at the event to call their local health unit office. It’s advising anyone still concerned to contact their health care provider or call telehealth Ontario.
The health unit said anyone planning to operate food premises must notify the local health unit before they begin operation, according to the Health Protection and Promotion Act. This applies to temporary food set-ups at special events and markets.
The health unit advises customers to look for a Temporary Event Food Vendor Permit which indicate the premises have been inspected by health inspectors. These permits must be posted visibly at the event.
