ATIKOKAN — A log truck was pulled off the road after it was deemed unsafe.
OPP in Atikokan were alerted by the public about a transport truck's wheels looked at risk of falling off while driving along Highway 11 towards Atikokan.
The release from OPP indicated in the report that the wheels were "throwing sparks across the highway."
Officers located this fully loaded pulp tractor-trailer combination and found two damaged trailer tires and an air brake chamber with a disconnected air line to the spring brake side of the chamber.
Police also noted in their release that it appeared the driver had clamped the airline with vice grips to limit the amount of air leaking from the lines.
A 76-year-old male from Fort Frances was charged with improper brakes on a commercial motor vehicle and driving with a major defect.
A trucking business from Emo was charged with failing to ensure performance standards are met.
The trailer was removed from service until the repairs could be made roadside.
