A woman from Lac Seul First Nation is among the newest members of the Order of Canada.

Patricia Margaret Ningewance, who now lives in Winnipeg, is an Ojibwe author and teacher.

Ningewance is being recognized for "her contributions to the vitality of Indigenous languages as an Anishinaabemowin teacher, author and publisher," the Order of Canada appointee announcement reads.

She has 40 years of experience in language teaching, translation and media work, according to her website.
