KENORA— The Dryden and Kenora OPP are excited to announce their annual kids' fishing derbies.
Starting with Kenora, on Aug. 20, children in the area are invited to Rabbit Lake for the Kenora Kids Fishing Derby running from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Meanwhile, on Aug. 21, kids in Dryden are invited to Wabigoon Lake for the Dryden Kids Fishing Derby, also running from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to media releases issued by the OPP on Friday.
The fishing derbies are open to youth ages 5 to 17 and include prizes for different categories, a barbecue lunch for participants and safety information, said the police.
Although limited equipment will be available on-site, the OPP encourages participants to bring their own fishing gear.
Life jackets and personal flotation devices will also be required to be worn throughout the fishing derbies, added the police.
The OPP said the free events offer a fantastic opportunity for kids to enjoy the great outdoors, connect with officers and "maybe even land the catch of the day."
