THUNDER BAY — The latest winner of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation's 50/50 draw is a resident of Kenora.
Rosemary Pereira's ticket was worth $754,885.
She received the good news Friday in a phone call from foundation president Glenn Craig.
Pereira had purchased a $20 ticket bundle earlier this month.
"I just went through a knee replacement and I've been in so much pain this past month...I thought 'I need something good in my life'," she said.
Pereira's knee replacement was done in Kenora through the Thunder Bay hospital's regional orthopedic program, which sees surgeons travel to different sites in Northwestern Ontario to perform procedures.
In 2016, the health sciences foundation supported the acquisition of specialized operating room equipment to facilitate the launch of the program at locations that included Kenora.
Craig said "We have ticket purchasers from all across Ontario, many of who have ties to our hospital, and they've allowed us to purchase some really great equipment to help improve healthcare in our region."
The 50/50 draw for May includes a Long Weekend Early Bird Blitz, with four $2,400 prizes to be drawn on Friday, May 20.
Tickets may be purchased now online at www.thunderbay5050.ca.
