KENORA – The city's municipal emergency control group is reminding residents to take precautions before the upcoming flood season.

As water levels begin to rise from the melting of the snowpack, the excessive runoff may trigger overland flooding in some lowland areas.

According to the City of Kenora Municipal Emergency Control Group, residents living in flood-prone areas should take steps to flood proof their properties inside and out to reduce damages and losses.

Residents are also urged to have an evacuation plan and a 72-hour emergency kit in case they will need to leave their homes.

The City of Kenora Municipal Emergency Control Group suggests residents research flood prevention and protection tips at Ontario.ca.

The Lake of the Woods Water Control Board website regularly provides water level updates on the notice board page.

Each week, or more frequently if necessary, an article is posted on the notice board about the water levels and forecasting of the Lake of the Woods and Winnipeg River.
