KENORA-- Kenora Fire and Emergency Services believe that the true heroes regarding fire safety in your home is the smoke and carbon monoxide alarm.

They posted a message for all residents to set a reminder to check the batteries of their smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarms monthly.

Smoke detectors and Carbon Monoxide alarms safe lives.  They suggest that you should replace the batteries or the entire unit if need be and to test these units often.

Their Fire Department suggests all residents test their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms at least once a month. This way they will know that they are working. They want to inform everyone the importance of having a carbon monoxide alarm in their homes and where they should be located. More than ever considering some of the tragedies that have occurred in the Province as a result of these alarms not working properly or even being installed, they encourage everyone to install carbon monoxide detectors in their home. These too should be tested monthly.

So when they ask the question, “Are there heroes in your home”?  The answer to that is yes--smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
