LAKE OF THE WOODS—As a means of honouring the contributions of a community resident, the Township of Lake of the Woods is hosting a special event.
What started as the Triple D Derby, the Lake of the Woods Women’s Walleye Tournament inspired by Kenora resident, Lynda Richardson, will take place Saturday, June 11 beginning at 7 a.m.
Her community remembers her for her caring nature and dedication to highlighting women’s profiles in the community.
In the announcement posted by her community, it affirms the purpose of the tournament. “The tournament continues to run in the spirit of Richardson’s commitment to the empowerment of women.”
Since it’s launch in 2015, the tournament continues to grow and has become a recognized tournament throughout Northwestern Ontario.
Originally only being a six-team tournament, today it has grown to a 40+ teams of women anglers who all hold the same goal. The challenge is to catch that BIG and have a great time doing it.
