KENORA — An driver is facing criminal charges after allegedly crashing into a police cruiser on general patrol in Kenora on Thursday.
An OPP officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle that had collided with the officer's cruiser in the downtown core of Kenora shortly after 8 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
As a result of the investigation, the police determined the driver had allegedly been consuming alcohol and an approved screening device test was administered.
After failing the test, the driver was arrested and transported to the Kenora detachment, where the police completed additional breath testing.
The 21-year-old Kenora resident now faces criminal charges of operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus, disobeying a stop sign by failing to stop contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and driver of a motor vehicle with no licence contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
The individual is scheduled to appear in the Kenora Ontario Court of Justice in January.
It is Newswatch policy not to name people facing criminal accusations when we are unlikely to follow the case to its conclusion in the courts.
