KENORA – A police investigation is continuing after the discovery of a suspicious package forced the evacuation of St. Thomas Aquinas high school on Tuesday.

The school was evacuated shortly after 1 p.m. after a suspicious package was located by two police officers during what OPP Const. Phillip Mays described as a routine foot patrol through the school.

According to the OPP, an investigation “revealed that there was no danger [to] students and staff,” who were permitted to return to class about a half hour later.

Mays said a criminal investigation into the incident continues, but police were not seeking any particular suspects as of Tuesday afternoon.

The response to the incident included Kenora OPP officer, the OPP’s explosives disposal unit, and Kenora Fire and Emergency Services.

Anyone who may have information relevant to the investigation is urged to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or submit anonymous tips via 1-800-222-8477.
