Kenora extends load restrictions on local roads

Due to concerns with wet conditions still and issue for the City of Kenora, it has decided to extend load restrictions on local roads.

KENORA—In a recent update, the City of Kenora has informed residents that the load restrictions on local roads, has been extended.

As a result of current wet conditions, still an ongoing concern, and the late spring, the load restrictions, half load, will remain in effect until further notice. According to their announcement the city indicated that, “The restriction will be lifted in coordination with the Ministry of Transport Ontario lifting restrictions on provincially controlled highways.”

Residents are asked to visit Weight and Load Limits for a list of roads subject to the spring load restriction. Once on this site, information about weight and load limits will be available. These limits, follow spring heavy load restrictions that are in place to what the city describes as a means, “protect our highways and roads from damage from spring thaw conditions.”

The city clarified the need for the extension by sharing that, “The Ministry of Transportation advises of the dates the half load limits come in effect. The restriction usually begins in March and lifts at the end of May; however, the dates vary depending on the weather conditions.”

The provided link will also give residents access to the list of roads affected by the extension of load restrictions on these local roads. Residents will notice the signs posted on the affected roads in the City of Kenora as listed in City of Kenora By-law 134-2021.
