Keewatin-Patricia District School Board offers reach ahead program to future students

Starting high school for the first time can for some seem quite intimidating. But getting the chance to find out what it is like to be a new high school student and knowing how different the demands for a high school student can be, is something that the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board wants its future students to experience.

KENORA—Students in Grade 8 planning to attend a Keewatin-Patricia District School Board high school in 2022-2023, were offered an opportunity to “reach ahead.”

KPDSB offered its spring 2022 Grade 8 Reach-Ahead-Virtual program, “Exploring Family Studies, Grade 9, OPEN (HIF10), to fun from April 5, until June 17, 2022. The program will have 22 classes and will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. (CST)

Classes will use the “Blended delivery” format which includes both virtual classes and online independent work.

The Board informed interested Grade 8 students of several key program Outcomes, including to “Build skills for success for secondary school and gain confidence heading into grade 9.”

For students wanting to have a chance to experience a little bit of high school life, this summer program will provide them with the opportunity to do just that.
