Fedorak's resilience prompts OPP to arrest one individual for animal cruelty

After Julie Ann Fedorak reported an animal in distress to the Rainy River OPP, police arrested and charged her neighbour for animal cruelty.

FORT FRANCES – As a result of Julie Ann Fedorak's protest to have her neighbours held accountable for their repeated abuse of their pet, the Rainy River in Fort Frances has arrested and charged one individual for causing unnecessary pain and suffering towards a dog, according to Rainy River OPP.

On the afternoon of May 8, Fedorak called the Rainy River District Detachment in Fort Frances after hearing a man screaming obscenities and his dog yelping in pain.

Police attended the scene and spoke with the Fedorak, who showed the officers her video recording.

The Rainy River OPP stated in a release they called on Animal Welfare Services to assist in the investigation, which Fedorak had already done.

In an interview with Dougall Media, Fedorak explained that she had called the Animal Welfare Services “six times in the last three weeks.” Upon their investigation, she was told the neighbour’s property was acceptable for pets.

Nevertheless, as a result of Animal Welfare Services and Rainy River OPP investigation, as well as the resilience of Fedorak and the Fort Frances community, on May 12 Fedorak’s neighbour, a 24-year-old from Fort Frances, was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals and failure to comply with a release order.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the court in Fort Frances to speak to the charges in June.
