ATIKOKAN — With the assistance of the Rainy River District OPP's crime unit, the OPP is investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a rural residence on Nickleby Lake Road east of Atikokan.
The OPP, Niobe Lake Fire Department and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry's Fire, Aviation and Emergency Services initially responded to the fire around 11 a.m. on Thursday.
The OPP, in a media release issued on Friday, said no one was injured in the fire that destroyed the residence and threatened the surrounding forested area.
The Office of the Fire Marshal also attended the scene and determined foul play cannot be ruled out.
