Impaired driving charges laid in Fort Frances

A 44-year-old is facing impaired driving charges following a traffic stop.

FORT FRANCES – A Friday night traffic stop has resulted in impaired driving charges for a 44-year-old Pawitik resident.

According to an Ontario Provincial Police release, officers conducted a traffic stop on Friday, April 8 at 8:50 p.m. on the 300 block of Nelson Street in Fort Frances.

Police say while speaking with the driver, it was determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol.

The driver was placed under arrest and returned to the detachment for further tests.

As a result of the investigation, a 44-year-old Pawitik resident has been charged with operation while impaired – alcohol or drug, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration and driving while under suspension.

The accused was also issued several provincial offences notices.

The driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in Fort Frances court on May 2.
