A 40-year-old from Fort Frances faces an impaired driving charge after being found with cannabis readily available in the vehicle when stopped at a RIDE checkpoint.

Provincial police said officers were conducted a ride check on Highway 11 in Mine Centre, east of Fort Frances, just after midnight on Sunday.

Police said officers found that the driver had cannabis available inside the vehicle. The officers demanded a field sobriety test, leading to the driver being arrested and taken to the Atikokan detachment.

The driver was charged with one count of impaired driving, and had their licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in a Fort Frances courtroom next month.
