Impaired driver fails to stop for police

Several charges have been laid after an impaired driver failed to stop for police in Kenora.

KENORA - On July 22, at approximately 01:24 a.m., Ontario Provincial Police Kenora Detachment was advised of a possible impaired driver.

Officers located the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, however, the vehicle failed to stop.

Officers followed the driver for a short distance but were forced to disengage when the situation became too dangerous for other road users.

A short time later, officers located the vehicle. Gene TURCOTTE, 46, of Winnipeg was arrested and charged with:

•       Operation While prohibited
•       Flight from a peace officer
•       Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
•       Failure or refusal to comply with demand
•       Resist police officer
•       Dangerous operation
•       Driving while under suspension

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora at a later date.
