Impaired charges laid in Red Lake

While en route to a service call, OPP pulled over an impaired driver on Howey Bay Road.

RED LAKE – In the early hours of Sept. 25, Red Lake and Ear Falls Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were en route to a call for service when their dispatch advised the officer of another call for service along Howey Bay Road.

According to the OPP Red Lake and Ear Fall detachment, after performing a traffic stop on a motor vehicle, OPP found the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages. The officers asked the driver to approve to a breath sample screening test, which the driver failed. The driver was arrested and brought to the detachment for further tests.

As a result of the investigation, the OPP charged a 48-year-old woman from the First Nations Territory of Poplar Hill with:

  • 1x Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • 1x Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus

She was released by way of Undertaking for Red Lake court on Nov. 17th at 9:00 a.m. to answer the charges.

The OPP reminds motorists who drive impaired are subject to driver's licence suspensions, fines, vehicle impoundments, criminal records and increased insurance costs.
