IGNACE — Nuclear Waste Management Organization continues to explore more opportunities to bring communities together, to learn more about nuclear waste management.
They travelled to Northwestern Ontario, to spend time in Ignace and Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation, where they met with local communities and visited the Learn More Centre. While there, they also toured the borehole sites.
On May 3, 2022, they informed residents in this region that they were conducting emplacement trials to simulate conditions in the deep geological repository and test important elements of the engineered barrier system.
The Nuclear Waste Management Organization informed the public that they are hosting a webinar entitled, “Transportation Planning: A process guided by Indigenous, social and technical science. The webinar scheduled for May 10, 2022 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., will feature special guest, Caitlyn Burley, Manager, Transportation Engagement.
Regional Communications Manager for Northern Ontario, Vince Ponka, will also be a guest speaker, that evening.
The primary goal of the webinar is to facilitate learning about their preliminary plan for safely transporting Canada’s used nuclear fuel.
