Highway 11/17 crash victim succumbs to injuries

A 21-year-old from Devlin has died from injuries sustained in a Dec. 16 multi-vehicle collision on Highway 11/17 in Thunder Bay.

THUNDER BAY — A person from Devlin has died as a result of injuries sustained in a Dec. 16 highway collision in Thunder Bay.

On Friday, the OPP announced that the 21-year-old from Devlin, a Fort Frances-area community, had succumbed to injuries in hospital.

An online obituary identified the victim as Jamie Dempsey Rittau (Sarah Adina).

The police force said it was advised of the death on Monday.

The individual was involved in a multi-vehicle collision that occurred on Dec. 16 between John Street and Oliver Road on Highway 11/17.

The accident involved three cars and happened on Highway 11/17 between John Street and Oliver Road around 6:47 pm., closing the highway for around 7.5 hours.

The OPP reported at the time that two people were taken to hospital with undisclosed injuries.

An investigation remains ongoing, but an OPP spokesperson said charges are not being considered at this time.
