SIOUX LOOKOUT – The landfill fees for waste disposal will be increasing for residents of Sioux Lookout.
“The landfill fee increase is based on the annual Consumer Price Index (CPI) as reported in June each year by Statistics Canada,” explained Jeff Hawley, Manager of Public Works and Infrastructure. “The landfill does not receive any funding from your tax dollars, it is a user pay system. This means the landfill fees charged must generate all of the money it needs to operate in a year.”
The CPI for 2022 is 8.1 per cent. To ensure the landfill keeps up with operating and fuel costs, an increase from $7.50 per 50 kilograms to $8.43, which applies to all material coming into the landfill.
However, this rate increase doe not apply to bag tags for curbside pickup.
Garbage bag tags are currently $2.60 each and will not be increasing at this time.
