Grand Council Treaty Three offers condolence to James Smith Cree Nation

After the tragedy in James Smith Cree Nation community, Grand Council Treaty Three sends prayers to the families and citizens.

GRAND COUNCIL TREATY THREE - The harrowing effects of this past weekend’s mass stabbing in James Smith Cree Nation has sent a ripple effect throughout the country. In Northwestern Ontario, the people of Treaty Three stand in solidarity with those victims that needlessly lost their lives at the hand of Myles Sanderson and his brother Damien.

“The news of the unspeakable events in Saskatchewan this week has left us all with a profound sense of sorrow,” said Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh. I know I can speak for the entirety of the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3 when I say our thoughts are with the families of lost loved ones in the wake of these terrible attacks.”

Sanderson’s rampage claimed the lives of 10 victims. Another 18 were injury in the attack.

“The Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3 stands with James Smith Cree Nation and mourns with the families of Thomas Burns, Carol Burns, Gregory Burns, Lydia Gloria Burns, Bonnie Goodvoice-Burns, Lana Head, Christian Head, Robert Sanderson, Wesley Petterson, and Earl Burns Sr. whom all lost their lives in these tragic attacks,” wrote Kavanaugh in a statement.

The Grand Council asks that their citizens keep the victims still in hospital in their prayers.
