IGNACE-The Nuclear Waste Management Organization in partnership with Ignace Learn More Centre wants to find fun ways to keep the residents of Ignace informed about nuclear waste management.
Both organizations are hosting an evening of free golf and food that is meant to give community participants another way for them to ask questions and dialogue about Canada’s plan to safely contain used nuclear fuel.
This “Conversation on the Greens Golf Night”, takes place at the Ignace Golf and Country Club, Thursday, June 16, 2022. It hopes to be an evening of golf, BBQ, and conversation.
Vince Ponka, regional communications manager, spoke about how excited he is about this event. “Anything we can do to talk to people of Ignace and the Wabigoon Ojibway Nation, is very important,” said Ponka. “They are the people who will decide if they are willing to host this depository.”
Ponka spoke about how grateful the organization is that the community partners and residents are willing to allow them to have this conversation.
He added how hosting this event at Ignace Golf and Country Club facilitates several things. It allows dialogue to take place outdoors, and it gives the people of Ignace the opportunity to see and enjoy the beautiful golf course, it has.
“I like this because it is active. It is getting outside and also maybe people who aren’t as familiar with the beautiful golf course can come out and see it,” said Ponka. “Ignace has a beautiful golf course.”
This fun evening, meant to bring together the partners and community to discuss freely and ask questions about the safe containment of used nuclear fuel, takes place between the hours of 3 and 8 p.m.
