FORT FRANCES — Public health and long-term care officials have declared an outbreak of a gastrointestinal illness at the Rainycrest Long-term Care home.
In a media release issued on Monday, Riverside Health Care said the outbreak at the Fort Frances-based facility is on its special care unit.
“Enhanced visitor and resident restrictions are currently in effect,” the release said, adding that they include a maximum of two visitors or caregivers are permitted at a time and that people should only visit one care home resident per visit.
Additionally, the health provider said, people visiting the special care unit should not visit residents in other parts of the facility and all visits must take place in the residents’ personal rooms.
“Riverside urges all visitors to conduct a self-screening before entering our facilities. Individuals experiencing symptoms are kindly asked not to visit at that time,” the release said, adding that restrictions are in place for admissions, transfers and discharges, and that large group social activities for residents in the special care unit are cancelled until further notice.
“We continue to emphasize the importance of good hand hygiene and encourage everyone to be mindful of these practices when visiting the home,” the release said. “The outbreak management team will continue to monitor the situation.”
“The care and safety of our residents, team members and families (is) a top priority.”
