MARATHON - Members of the Marathon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police arrested and charged a 37-year-old G1 licence holder with impaired driving.

On Aug. 5 at about 11 p.m., officers were conducting a RIDE program on Peninsula Road when the driver was stopped and an investigation commenced.

The driver faces multiple charges under the Criminal Code, Liquor Licence Control Act, and Highway Traffic Act, including: operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs; operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg; and having care or control of a motor vehicle with alcohol readily available.

Several G1-specific offences were also noted: driving with a blood alcohol concentration over 0 mg; driving unaccompanied by a qualified driver; and carrying a front-seat passenger.

The driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear in a Marathon courtroom on Sept. 24.

It is Newswatch policy not to name people facing criminal accusations when we are unlikely to follow the case to its conclusion in the courts.
