DRYDEN – The Dryden Public Library is now offering a home delivery service for its patrons. The service commits to ensuring that everyone has access to the library’s collection.
Tina Wallin, acting CAO of Dryden Public Library, explains that the service is easy to sign up. Patrons can come down the to building or call. Library staff will ask the patron for their preference whether that be a book in small, larger print or paperback, magazines, audiobooks or DAISY talking books. The staff will package the material for delivery.
Although the library will be the place where patrons can order their literary material, the volunteer organization The Friends of the Library will be doing all the leg work.
Lucille Ayers, President of Friend of Dryden Public said the organization has 20 volunteer members, and “five of the members have volunteered to be drivers for the home delivery service.”
“I’m hoping it’s a big success,” said Ayers. “I’m sure we can get more of our volunteers to help with this once it is underway and people see how it operates.”
At the moment, Friends of the Library will be covering the Dryden area including Wabigoon Lake First Nations and Vermillion Bay, but Wallin states that depending on the active interest from their patrons, they hope to expand their coverage area further.
“The delivery service is once a month, so we will make sure they have enough material, and for reason, if they ran out of material or whatever they requested is not interesting, we will pull some more material for them and we will let on of the Friends know, and they will go out and deliver it to them,” said Wallin.
For those people who don’t have a library card, Wallin said they would be happy to provide a library card for them.
