Foul play not suspected in fatal Pikangikum house fire

OPP is still investigating a July 4 house fire that claimed the life of one person

PIKANGIKUM FIRST NATION — Provincial police are continuing to investigate a fatal fire in Pikangikum First Nation that claimed the life of one individual.

In the early morning of July 4, officers from the OPP, Pikangikum Police Service, and Pikangikum Peacekeepers arrived on the scene and quickly extinguished the fire.

One person died and 11 others were able to escape.

A forensic post-mortem examination will be conducted to confirm the identity of the deceased.

In a news release on Tuesday, police said it is not believed that foul play was involved.
