Fort Frances man allegedly attempted to disarm officers during arrest

FORT FRANCES — A 33-year-old faces multiple charges after allegedly attempting to disarm police officers in Fort Frances.

Provincial police said officers stopped an individual in the 400 block of Scott Street for a probation violation on the evening of Feb. 10.

Police said as officers attempted to arrest the suspect, the individual attempted to disarm the officers.

Byron Indian is charged with two counts of assault with intent to resist arrest, two counts of disarming police, two counts of failing to comply with probation, and two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.

Indian is being held in custody and is expected to appear in a Fort Frances courtroom on Thursday.

None of the charges have been tested in court.
