FORT FRANCES—As part of their Happy Easter Wishes for all residents, Fort Frances Fire Rescue Service shared some tips for a worry-free Easter Holiday.
Their safety tips talked about smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and the importance of not leaving any form of cooking unattended.
FFFRS informed residents the fact that working smoke alarms save lives and that it is very important to ensure that the smoke alarms in the home are working. Installing a smoke alarm on every level of your home, outside all sleeping areas, and inside all bedrooms, is crucial for added protection of yourself and family members.
In addition, they highlighted that any home that has fuel fired appliances, a fireplace, or an attached garage, requires a Carbon Monoxide Alarm. It is also a good idea to have a CO alarm outside sleep areas and to test the working condition of these alarms monthly.
FFFRS also wanted residents to be aware of smoking in the home. “Smoking is the leading cause of fatal fires,” they stated. Ultimately, it is best that smokers smoke outside and avoid extinguishing smoking materials in plant pots, which often have a mixture of peat moss, shredded wood and bark that is easily ignitable. “Never smoke in bed,” was a key message that the FFFRS wished to share.
The Easter holiday includes many special moments and meals shared with family and friends. When cooking, pay close attention, remembering to never leave stoves cooking food, unattended.
They ended their list of safety tips by wishing all residents a safe and happy Easter.
