FORT FRANCES — Recent above average precipitation has resulted in a critical infrastructure failure.

On April 23, 2022, Fort Frances Municipal Emergency Control Group declared a state of emergency, “due to a critical infrastructure failure.”

FFMECG informed residents that, “additional resources have been mobilized to further help alleviate the demands on the system and facilitate repairs.”

With additional rainfall received the past 24 hours, FFMECG operation’s staff ask, that residents ensure that their sump pumps are not connected to the sanitary sewer.”

On April 24, 2022, FFMECG provided residents with an update asking residents to minimize water usage in order to let their sanitary system catch up.

Due to the recent above average precipitation, water levels in their storm system are at high levels, and water is said to be moving. However, FFMECG added that it will take time for the system to catch up.

Residents were given ways to minimize water usage by holding off on laundry, dishes and long showers for at least the next 48 hours.
