Fort Frances declares significant weather event

Town officials ask residents to limit use of roadways and sidewalks during winter storm, which is expected to start Tuesday evening.

FORT FRANCES — The town has declared a significant weather event, with a winter storm warning forecasting up to 25 centimetres of snow and ice pellets.

Fort Frances officials announced the declaration on Tuesday morning, with it taking effect in the afternoon.

The declaration prohibits on-street parking outside of the downtown core area between 7:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. The town is also asking residents to limit their use of roadways and sidewalks.

The snow is expected to start Tuesday night and taper off into Wednesday. Reduced visibility is expected due to heavy and blowing snow, with wind gusts of up to 70 kilometres per hour in the forecast.
