Firearms, trafficking charges laid against Sioux Lookout pair

Ontario Provincial Police say they raided a Highland Park Drive residence last week, where they recovered firearms and suspected illicit substances.

SIOUX LOOKOUT – Police have laid drug trafficking and firearms charges against a pair of Sioux Lookout residents.

In a release issued on Tuesday evening, Ontario Provincial Police said they executed a search warrant on April 17 at about 2 p.m. at a residence on Highland Park Drive in Sioux Lookout.

During the search police recovered prohibited firearms, ammunition and prohibited firearms accessories, as well as suspect illicit substances and proceeds of crime.

A 21-year-old Sioux Lookout male has been charged with three counts of unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, three counts of careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a firearm knowing the serial number has been tampered with, possession of  a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, possession of a Schedule 2 substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

An 18-year-old male from Sioux Lookout was charged with possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of a property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Both accused have been remanded into custody and are expected in court on Wednesday.
