INTERNATION FALLS, MN -- International Falls Fire Department have discovered a body of an 85-year-old woman in the remains of a house that was destroyed by fire on the U.S. side of Rainy Lake.

The fire was reported after 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Northernaire Houseboats located on the edge of the lake about 10 kilometres east of International Falls.

Fire crews battled the fire into the early hours of Thursday.

Two other people involved in the fire are receiving medical care, including the 51-year-old daughter of the victim who unsuccessfully tried to enter the home to rescue her mother and a 12-year-old girl. The child is listed in stable condition. There are no updates on the woman’s condition at this time.

Firefighters responding to the inferno were later treated for heat exhaustion and dehydration. All have been released.

The Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Division is investigating the fire, but officials say early signs point to it being accidental in nature and there is nothing suspicious at this time.
