Fiery Highway 17 collision leads to careless driving charge

Two people were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a transport truck collision east of Dryden.

DRYDEN — A truck driver has been charged with careless driving after a fiery collision on the weekend on Highway 17 east of Dryden.

Ontario Provincial Police said the operator of a tractor-trailer driver and a co-driver were both taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to OPP, their transport truck left the roadway at about 5 a.m. Saturday near Basket Lake Road, about 50 km from Dryden, and struck a rock cut, causing it to burst into flames.

Traffic through the collision scene was disrupted for several hours.

A 32-year-old man from Winnipeg was charged.
