Extreme cold grips northwestern Ontario

Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for northwestern Ontario

Environment Canada is reporting wind chill values of -35 to -40 expected overnight into Tuesday morning. Extreme cold conditions may last until Wednesday for the following areas:

  • Red Lake
  • Perrault Falls
  • Lac Seul
  • Ear Falls
  • Savant Lake
  • Sturgeon Lake
  • Sioux Lookout

Remote Northern communities are expected to experience wind chill values near minus 45 tonight into Tuesday morning.

These areas include:

  • Attawapiskat
  • Big Trout Lake
  • Kasabonika
  • Sachigo Lake
  • Bear Lake
  • Fort Hope
  • LansDowne House
  • Ogoki
  • Webequie
  • Pikangikum
  • Poplar Hill
  • MacDowell
  • Sandy Lake
  • Weagamow Lake
  • Deer Lake

Extreme cold weather events put everyone at risk of frostbite and hypothermia, especially young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.

In addition, Environment Canada is advising if it's too cold for you to stay outside, it's too cold for your pet to stay outside.
