Evacuation issued for Sandy Lake First Nation

Residents are advised to gather at the Southeast corner of the community, where fire management staff are mobilizing boats.

RED LAKE — As of Saturday around 2 p.m., a fire evacuation order has been issued for all residents in Sandy Lake First Nation.

According to the Ontario Forest Fires Facebook page, the Ministry of Natural Resources’ fire management staff confirmed that the fire, also known as Red Lake 12, was spotted across the West Arm of Sandy Lake and spreading northward toward the community.

Community officials advised that all residents should gather at the Southeast corner of the community, where fire management staff are mobilizing boats.
