Eight train cars derail near Atikokan

According to CN Rail, a train derailment on Monday is under investigation.

ATIKOKAN — A train carrying non-dangerous goods derailed east of Atikokan. 

The train derailed on Monday, April 8, around 10:15 p.m., according to a CN Rail spokesperson. 

It was confirmed the CN train was carrying grain, and eight train cars derailed in the Huronian area near Atikokan.

The spokesperson explained, “The derailed cars have been removed from the site, and track repairs are underway. Estimates are that track repair work will continue through to the morning of Monday, April 15.” 

The cause of the derailment is still under investigation.

No dangerous goods were involved in the derailment, and no injuries or fires resulted from this incident. One private crossing was impacted but has since been cleared, read the statement from CN Rail.
