DRYDEN — City officials are voiding results in the English public school board trustee race due to what they describe as irregularities in the ballot.
The City of Dryden issued a news release on Monday afternoon, announcing they are declaring an emergency under the Municipal Elections Act for the school board contest.
City clerk Allyson Euler said that some voters received multiple options to vote, whether it was through the city's voter information letter or having received a specific trustees ballot from the school board.
The irregularities meant that those voters would have been able to cast multiple ballots in the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board's trustees race.
“It came to light very recently, so we had to come up with a way to deal with it and the Municipal Elections Act does allow for that,” said Euler. “So, we are making use of the emergency ability.”
Euler said that all other races in Dryden remain valid and those votes will be counted as normal, and the results will be out after the polls close.
Euler also said the city clerk's office has been in contact with the school board trustee candidates and is working with the school board on a by-election that will happen at a later date.
