DRYDEN – In the afternoon of Jan. 11, officers with the Dryden OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a passenger vehicle and a commercial motor vehicle on Highway 17 East in the village of Wabigoon in Zealand Township.

Through a media release, the OPP said officers on the scene determined that the driver of the motor vehicle was impaired by drugs. The individual was transported to the Dryden OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result, an 81-year-old from Wabigoon has been arrested and charged with impaired driving.

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the court on Jan. 29.

In another incident at a RIDE spot check later that day, officers determined that the driver of a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was prohibited from driving.

As a result, a 29-year-old from Zealand Township has been arrested and charged with impaired driving, failure to comply with a prohibition order, and driving while prohibited.

The vehicle was impounded for 45 days. The accused was held for a bail hearing and released.

This individual is scheduled to appear before court on Jan. 22.
