Dryden OPP charge Winnipeg man with impaired driving

A traffic complaint regarding an erratic driver travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 17 has resulted in a Winnipeg man charged with impaired driving

THUNDER BAY — A Winnipeg resident is facing impaired operation charges following a traffic complaint in Southworth Township near Dryden.  

According to an Ontario Provincial Police media release, officers with the Dryden detachment received a traffic complaint just before 9 p.m. on May 19, 2024.

The complaint detailed a motor vehicle driving erratically and at a high rate of speed on Highway 17 east.

The vehicle was located and officers conducted a traffic stop. It was determined the driver of the vehicle was impaired by alcohol.

A 41-year-old male from Winnipeg was arrested and charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80, and driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor.

The man was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court next month.

The OPP is reminding the public to call 911 to report suspected impaired drivers on area roadways.
