DRYDEN — More information has been released about the man who drowned in the Wabigoon River on Monday.

According to the Dryden OPP, on April 1, officers responded to a report of a man who fell through the ice while attempting to rescue his dog.

Police, the Oxdrift Fire Team, the Dryden fire department and paramedics all responded, and an extensive search was conducted. Officers searched the water with rescue equipment and remotely piloted drones in an attempt to locate the male near Kellar Road.

After an extensive search of the area, the individual and his pet were both found deceased.

OPP has stated that the investigation is ongoing.

Provincial police are advising the public to use caution around large bodies of water as warmer temperatures will melt the ice and make it more unstable. They suggest wearing appropriate floatation suits and carry ice picks if venturing out onto the ice late in the season.
