Dryden man arrested on firearms charges

DRYDEN — A 27-year-old faces several firearms charges after provincial police searched an Oxdrift home.

Police said a search warrant was executed at the residence on Thursday, leading to the seizure of five firearms, prohibited devices, ammunition, and a suspected illicit substances.

The accused, Josh Savage, was arrested and charged with three counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order and two counts of careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, along with single counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, failure or refusal to comply with a demand, and drug possession.

Police said officers with the Dryden detachment, emergency response team, explosives disposal unit, and organized crime enforcement bureau assisted with the investigation.

Savage remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in a Kenora bail court next week.

The charges have yet to be tested in court.
